Cell phones, Blackberrys and Personal Digital Assistants have become a common fixture in business and society. They are used to facilitate communication, store and manage information, take pictures or listen to music. As with computers, these devices are sometimes used to in such a way as to make them the focus of a criminal investigation, an internal review or a data recovery effort.
From cell phones and PDA's to MP3 players and hybrid devices, NTC Forensics has the equipment and trained personnel needed to perform digital forensic examinations on these portable digital devices. Our facilities and capabilities in this area are extensive. Some of the highlights are listed below.
Processing of Mobile Devices
NTC Forensics has charging and interface adaptors for a large percentage of the mobile devices in use today, along with the software tools needed to examine them. We also stock faraday bags which allow us to store or work with devices without allowing them to communicate with the outside world, critical for preserving the device in its original state.
Cell Phone Processing
We have the lab equipment to communicate with many brands and models of phone, downloading details such as call logs, contact lists, PIM contents, and stored digital images. Our trained technicians can often extract this data even if someone has attempted to delete it. We can also access the SIM cards present in some devices for the information they contain.
PDA Processing
Our certifed staff is trained in accessing Palm and Windows based PDA's and smartphones. The data which can be recovered is similar to that which is available from full size computers. Stored data, pictures, notes, messages and calendar items are common work product from the forensic examination of a PDA.
Other Personal Digital Devices
Other personal digital devices can be processed in our lab as well. Digital cameras, thumb drives, GPS systems and personal music players can often store information of interest to investigators. Hybrid devices which combine the features of a phone, a PDA, a digital camera and an MP3 player are becoming more common. Our technical team can process these devices as well.
If you have a PDA, cell phone, or other mobile device that needs to be examined call us right away! Delay or failure to take the right first steps can have a disastrous impact on the ability to forensically process one of these devices. We can be reached 24 hours a day at (915) 544-2034.
